About Me
Educational Biography
After graduating from high school, I attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. A few years later, after my three daughters were born, I decided to return to school in order to obtain my teaching certification. In 2004, I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a major in Applied Learning and Development. I am certified to teach EC - 6 grades.
"Instruction begins when you, the teacher, learn from the learner, put yourself in his place so that you may understand that he understands and in the way he understands it,.." -Soren Kierkegaard (1848)
Educational Philosophy
I believe that it is my responsibility to empower all students in becoming independent and critical thinkers. Every child is a unique individual bringing to the classroom individual experiences and talents. Drawing on these experiences and incorporating them into a child’s learning is essential to that student’s success. It is my responsibility to make learning meaningful to all children in my classroom. Lessons will be crafted in ways to connect and build on prior knowledge and will be designed to reach the multiple intelligence of learners. All children should have access to a safe, stimulating, and respectful environment for learning. Students are not the only learners in the classroom. I will be continuing my journey as a lifelong learner as well.
"Learning is finding out what we already know. Doing is demonstrating that you know it. Teaching is reminding others that they know just as well as you. You are all learners, doers, and teachers." -- Richard Bach
